With the recently released JobKeeper payment announced by the Federal Government, there’s never been a more critical time to ensure your STP compliance. The ATO has announced that a number of the key JobKeeper steps need to be managed through payroll and STP reporting, so now is the time to ensure your are up and running with STP.

How to process JobKeeper Payments through STP with Easy Payslip

JobKeeper Payments must be processed through Single Touch Payroll (STP). If you haven’t already done so, sign up for Easy Payslip (or download the Android or iOS apps) and create your account.

Don’t worry - there are plenty of support materials to help you; start with this guide to setting up your account.

There are six actions that an employer will need to complete in order to receive the JobKeeper Subsidy Payment from the Government (in addition to meeting eligibility requirements). These are:

  1. Enrol in the programme
  2. Get your Employees to complete the 'JobKeeper Employee Nomination Notice'
  3. Notify the ATO of included Employee(s)
  4. Continue paying your Employees the minimum $1,500 per JobKeeper Fortnight along with sending payslips and STP files
  5. Monthly declaration to the ATO
  6. Notify the ATO if an Employee(s) will no longer be receiving JobKeeper from you

The JobKeeper Subsidy payment is a Government programme to effectively reimburse participating employers $1,500 per fortnight per eligible employee.

Firstly, don’t worry. There are 6 steps to complete (three of which require a payroll solution, such as Easy Payslip), but we have step-by-step guides to walk you through what’s needed. Yes. We’ve updated our apps and support materials to enable JobKeeper payment and we have step-by-step instructions for performing all the steps required. We explain all the steps needed - even the ones you need to do outside the app.

Using Easy Payslip, you firstly need to nominate which employees will be receiving the JobKeeper payment. This is done by entering a specific allowance type on a payslip for each employee.

You then need to ensure that you keep paying your staff at least $1,500 per fortnight (or $750 a week), and that this is reported through Single Touch Payroll.

There two steps that are performed through the ATO’s portal.

  • Enroling in the JobKeeper programme
  • Submitting a montly declaration
